Top Of The World 90° North
The idea of going to the North Pole stroke, whilst thinking of a challenge outside the box. Something not easily accessible, untouched by humanity. Yet extreme and different from the climate we know in Saudi Arabia. Narrowing down the options, The North Pole just stood out from the rest. Achieving this expedition would also put a mark in the history of the Kingdom- to have the first Saudi to ski to the top of the world. I shared my thoughts with Zain – a well-known Saudi telecommunication company. They loved the concept, offered to sponsor me and we started working on it.
The hardest part is the preparation for the actual trip. It requires heavy physical training to prepare the body to drag a weight of 65 kilograms on a sledge. And that weight is carried for an average of 10 hours a day. The frosty weather in the North Pole has its tests. Staying on guard against polar bear attacks, frostbites, and Mother Nature’s weather changes.
From this expedition, the take-home is that we humans can survive even in extreme meteorological conditions. And it is all up to our beautiful minds to set our thoughts to it.
