Capital City Pristina
Let’s start from the beginning, I had to visit some friends whom I meet back in Theth, Albania. My friends were staying in the capital city, Pristina which is where the journey began. So I got a private transportation from Ulcinj, Montenegro to Shkoder, Albania, then another transportation that took me to Pristina, Kosovo. I arrived later afternoon but didn’t want to miss out on explorer the city, so I met up with a friends immediately and we headed out to try some local food. After that great meal we drove around to explore the city and visited a church in the downtown that was newly built, and went inside to the fifth floor which had a great view of the city. If you come before the sunset you will enjoy the view even more. After that we continued our exploration and walked around which led us to the famous newborn sign where we took pictures there, and ended the night with a great local dinner. The next day I woke up very early to go explore something else that is less urban than Pristina. So I found a private transport to take me to Prizren, this city is full of old sightings and is considered the historical capital of Serbian Empire.
I was lucky enough that I became friends with my driver; Visar who decided to show me the city through his own eyes since this is his city. While we were exploring the city he told me that he had to go to a funeral and he will drop me somewhere until he is back but I told him I will actually prefer to join him and pay my respects as well. Well death is death and it’s very sad, but seeing a different ceremony than what I am used to was interesting. Then the trip continued and this time we walked around the city. We had an amazing time and I loved the local food which was by far the best food during my trip.
Eid Al adha vibes in Kosovo
The next day was the Eid celebration and I wanted to celebrate with the locals who are Muslims and Kosovo is actually a muslim country. So I bought the traditional cloths and my friend Visar had prepared the day for me to celebrate it together. So in the morning I went for prayers in the Mosque at 5:40 AM and then I meet Visar Who took me to local family who were sacrificing a sheep in their own house and that was similar to what we actually do back home as well. It is a tradition to eat baklava so I bought a full plate and gave it to my host who actually had already made a delicious baklava at home, so we eat and enjoyed each other’s company.
Then I met some family members of Visar, and met his wife Grandmother who was 90 years old. I am writing this with a smile on my face because we had such great time that reflected a smiles on all of our faces. Then we went to Visar’s uncle who was excited to join us to drive south to a town called Brod. In Brod my sheep to sacrifice was there, which is my way of thanking God and I am so blessed that I have done it and may God accept my sacrifice. We enjoyed each other‘s company and had a great conversation and enjoyed eating lamb at this restaurant that has a great view between the mountains. With this I have finished my trip in Kosovo and started another one back again to Albania.
